Julie is a graduate of the University of Tampa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management. She received her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from South University in Tampa, where she also served as vice president of her class. She holds memberships in various medical organizations, including the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Florida Academy of Physician Assistants and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Jen is a graduate of Clarkson University where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Bio-Molecular Science. Jen then went on to graduate from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences with her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. She holds memberships in the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, The Obesity Medicine Association, and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Cate started her nursing career in 1995 in Syracuse, New York working in cardiac ICU.  She then transferred to the bariatric surgery specialty in 2001. She is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and served on the ASMBS task force assisting in the development of the national certification for Certified Bariatric Nurses (CBN). She also works as a bariatric legal nurse in her spare time. Cate had gastric bypass surgery in 2002 and feels this gives her a unique, personal perspective in helping patients on their journey to optimal wellness.

Kim is a Florida native with over 20 years’ experience as a licensed practical nurse. Since joining Dr. Rekkas at Manatee Surgical Alliance – Weight Loss Center in 2016, Kim has been committed to delivering exceptional patient outcomes and fostering a supportive, healing environment. She has built a reputation for combining clinical excellence with a caring, patient-centered approach. As a valued member of our team, Kim continues to enhance her nursing practice through ongoing professional development and collaborative teamwork. 

Edith joined our team in 2020, helping bariatric patients navigate requirements for the program and providing education that is key to a successful outcome. She also obtains authorizations from insurance and works diligently for approvals/ appeals for surgical procedures.

Edith also helps patients schedule their surgeries and provides pre-op information, communicating with the hospital so that the patient has a smooth transition for their hospital pre-testing and hospital stay. Her role is essential in the success of the bariatric program.

Kelly is the dedicated surgery scheduler for Dr. Rekkas, ensuring that patients have a seamless experience when planning their surgeries. With a focus on personalized care, she assists patients in coordinating their procedures and answering any questions throughout the scheduling process

Liz is a Florida native who has over 15 years of experience in customer service. Liz loves spending time with her family and goes above and beyond daily to help all patients . In her role at the front desk Liz assists with answering phone calls, verifying benefits, scheduling appointments, and much more. 

Laura has worked in healthcare for over 30 years and enjoys helping patients as well as her coworkers. She enjoys spending time with her family. As a front office Medical Office Specialist, she answers patient phone calls, schedules appointments, verifies insurance benefits, and much more.

Jenny is a compassionate and dedicated Bariatric Intake Coordinator who guides patients through the initial steps of their weight-loss journey. She expertly assists patients with the intake process, providing information, answering questions, and ensuring a smooth and supportive onboarding experience. Jenny is passionate about empowering patients to make informed decisions and achieve their health goals.

Joshua Mayer is a seasoned healthcare professional with extensive experience as a Practice Manager in various specialized fields including bariatrics, trauma, plastics, colorectal, and digestive health.

A dedicated veteran of the US Navy, Joshua’s military service instilled in him a strong sense of discipline, leadership, and commitment to excellence.  Joshua holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Management, equipping him with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the healthcare industry. Building upon this foundation, he pursued an MBA with a concentration in healthcare, further enhancing his strategic management abilities and business acumen.

Throughout his career, Joshua has demonstrated a steadfast dedication to improving patient care, optimizing operational efficiency, and fostering collaborative environments within healthcare settings. His leadership style is characterized by integrity, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Joshua is a loving husband and devoted father to his 18-month-old son. He finds fulfillment in balancing his professional achievements with his family commitments, striving to create a harmonious blend of career success and personal fulfillment.
